DESCRIPTION

The implications of the theoretical insights and empirical results of this study for design strategies, are tested in a design lab with young architects. The participants of the design lab will explore the design possibilities for the conversion of the site Ex-Manifattura Paracchi, an abandoned carpet factory that is a typical example of industrial architecture in the area, to a theatre venue. Thereby the participants will make use of the theoretical framework part of the research as well as the results of the audience research. The scope of this design study is to investigate the consequences of the resulting insights for design strategies used by architects. Results will be drawn from participant observation at the round table meetings of the lab, alongside the explanation of the participants’ strategies in a project presentation and in-depth analysis of the final design projects. The experimental design lab offeres the participants both academic expertise, expertise from stakeholders from the field and last but not least, input from experienced end users (audience members).
